BlackBerry Curve vs Alcatel One Touch
The BlackBerry Curve is one of the elder statesmen of the smartphone generation. The 8300 first launched in 2007 and immediately became indispensable for countless users. Along with the first iPhone, it instigated a huge leap forward for mobile phones finally making them true multimedia devices, as opposed to phones with increased functionality.
That it still has a place on the market, in spite of BlackBerry’s launch of the Torch, is testament to the groundbreaking developments that RIM made three years ago.
Of course, there was initial disappointment surrounding the Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity with some models, thought it must be said that RIM were quick to address this. Without it, the true capabilities of the QWERTY keyboard – and what it could do for the way we send emails and surf the Internet – were left untapped.
While it’s already been mentioned that the RIM rectified connectivity issues, they only did this through the introduction of Wi-Fi and EDGE. Users had to wait until the release of 9000 in 2009 for any 3G functionality, almost criminal given that this has been standard in its competitors for some time.
That the Curve’s 3G debut came at a time when an improved model, the BlackBerry Bold, was coming onto the market, thus edging out its predecessor, it begs the question why RIM bothered, or didn’t get there sooner.
Nevertheless, now that the Curve comes equipped with 3G, and as such its features can be fully exploited, it regains its place as a vital member of the industry. Email and map capabilities are now much smoother and easy to use on-the-go.
The Curve remains a strong performer in spite of RIM’s newer models, and is unwilling to yet be consigned to the history books. For all round performance it is hard to fault it, and as it gets older the value for money that it represents only gets greater.
